If you're looking to crack some Lorcana packs without burning your wallet, there's one set sitting quietly on the secondary market that beats every other option on expected value right now: Whispers in the Well.
At around $110 a box in the market, it's not the flashiest pick. It's not the newest set. But when you run the actual numbers — pulling every Legendary, Epic, Enchanted, and Iconic price from and calculating what you can realistically expect back — Whispers in the Well comes closer to breaking even than any other set available. And it's not particularly close.
The Numbers Don't Lie
We compared all four current sets using real prices and community-estimated pull rates. The methodology is simple: only count cards you can actually resell. Commons, Uncommons, Rares, and Super Rares go for pennies, and once you factor in seller fees, shipping, supplies, and your time, you're netting nothing or less. So we zeroed them out and focused on Legendaries, Epics, Enchanteds, and Iconics only.
Here's what the math produces for a single 24-pack box:

Whispers in the Well returns about 91 cents of expected value for every dollar spent. That's about as close to break-even as you'll find in any Lorcana product. Winterspell and Wilds Unknown both sit around a 23% loss. Fabled is in a different universe — you're paying $529 for roughly $123 in card value.
Why Whispers Wins
The secret is the Legendary pool. Whispers in the Well has the strongest Legendary cards of any current set, averaging $10.22 per Legendary across all 12 cards. A standard box gives you about 4 Legendaries, so you're looking at roughly $41 in expected Legendary value before you've even counted Enchanteds or Iconics.
To put that in perspective, Wilds Unknown Legendaries average just $2.97 each. You get about 6 per box as they have secretly improved pull rates, but 6 × $2.97 is still only $17.80 — less than half of what Whispers delivers.
The Legendary highlights in Whispers include Demona - Scourge of the Wyvern Clan at $30.50, Cinderella - Dream Come True at $27.00, and Hades - Looking for a Deal at $18.99. These aren't bulk Legendaries — they're cards people actually want.
The Enchanteds add another layer. Whispers has 18 Enchanted cards averaging $137 each, including Spooky Sight at $500 — one of the most valuable Enchanteds in any recent set. There's also a 20% chance per box of hitting one of those, which means roughly one in five boxes cracks an Enchanted worth over a hundred dollars.
And if you're feeling lucky, both Iconics are legitimate chase cards. Ariel - Ethereal Voice is blowing past $1,500 and Hades - Looking for a Deal (Iconic) at $949, averaging over $1,000 each. Iconics are a long shot — but it's a rewarding one.
What About the Newer Sets?
Wilds Unknown gets a lot of attention right now, and deservedly so for the experience. It's the first set with Pixar characters, the Buzz Lightyear Iconic breaking over $2,000, and Ravensburger improved pull rates across the board. But the EV math is tougher than it looks. The improved Enchanted rate helps, but most of the Legendary and Epic cards in Wilds Unknown trade for under $3. When you run the numbers, Wilds Unknown lands at roughly the same EV efficiency as Winterspell — but on a box that costs $33 more.
Wilds Unknown is an excellent box to open if you love Pixar and want the best shot at a big Enchanted or Iconic hit. It's just not the value play.
The Bottom Line
Whispers in the Well isn't the newest set. It won't trend on social media the way a Wilds Unknown box break does. But if you care about getting the most card value out of your money, it's the clearest winner in the current Lorcana market. If you've made it to the end, lucky you. We've heard there's whispers (pun intended) that it's selling out fast and could possibly follow Fabled box prices.
Buy a box. Crack it open or squirrel it away. The math is on your side.
